Team Collaboration There is something unique about the management of resources in the information technology world be it any personnel, software or hardware. For projects of any size, shape or value. Communcation and collaboration plays a very vital role in the success of any IT project. Collaboration on one hand is the key factor on where we want to go when a task is finished in the end or more precisely where we want to end up with the entire development team. I’m probably of the opinion that if we do it right then we would end up at the right place but seldom is the case when we are always right and for that matter we just have processes and methods along with tools which keep us in line all the time.
Therefore we imagine a really crazy scenario, a project which is two months behind already with a negative variance on budget and no body on the team listening towards the end result but everyone is tied up solving the issues and the problems at hand today. It is somewhat a typical IT situation gone wild. I’m sure the team itself and the PM alike would have greater responsibilities towards carrying out the situation wisely. Nevertheless, its dependent more on the current scenario of getting things done than to getting things done right. A right between right and the wrongs all make the communication and the collaboration not only harder but also impossible to understand.
There are tasks that make a substantial amount of difference if the teams collaborate at the right level. Even if there is a collaboration at the minutest level then that makes a difference. Communication is enhanced, and the tasks are distributed and well taken care and at any given point its clearly understood that what’s going on with the teams and in which direction we are moving. Its important to notice that only collaboration doesn’t help succeed but timely feedbacks and the status alongwith the probing of the team lead helps as well in many ways.
What’s this book addressing? What problem this book trying to address or pointing to resolve?
One of the key factors which this book is written about is collaboration but more specifically this book addresses the issues that take a stand of solving and collaborating using the open source approach, processes, tools and methods. It is quite simple to the people who actually live in Open Source World but for people who live outside it and have some or no clue about it on whether such processes and tools even exists then its quite a serious trouble! Its oughta be known to everyone and the benefits of this should be passed onto organizations to organizations and no one should be despised of it.
